A new dining club dinnerfriends.co.uk has been launched to bring together like-minded individuals, with a shared interest in good company and great food.

The £50 joining fee and first year’s annual membership is free for the first 500 men and 500 women who sign up to the service online. Registration is simple, obligation-free and takes less than 3 minutes.

Aimed at business professionals and singles, dinnerfriends.co.uk provides an ideal platform to extend social and career networks. Members are offered to join a table at a restaurant for up to 12 diners and can invite others to join them, so that each event promises an exciting mix of potential opportunities.

For many people, dining alone is usually an unattractive proposition, whilst one-on-one blind dating can be fraught with embarrassing encounters.

Members are able to see who else will be seated at the table before they arrive and the automatic booking system will ensure a ratio of no more than 60:40 between the sexes and guests generally swap seats between courses, offer an interesting mix of company.

“dinnerfriends.co.uk is about dining first and foremost but with an added twist of meeting other professionals who have had little time to organise their social life, or hose whose marital circumstances may have left them frozen out of their previous circle of friends,” said founder Claudia Pfeiffer, who added, “You never know who you might, your next best friend, partner and lover, new boss or business partner.”

Members can suggest preferred restaurants and invite other members online. They can also bring their own friends, which appeals to those to whom the idea of dinning with a total strangers somewhat daunting. The website allows members to view who will be attending, before making a commitment.

Prix fixé menus including service are pre paid, which minimises the chances of “no shows”. Accompanying drinks are settled at the end of the meal.

Events are planned at destination restaurants in London and Home Counties and will spread nationwide as membership grows.

There is also premium membership, costing £100 per annum, that will allow members access to more exclusive events and sample gourmet tasting menus, with accompanying fine wines

Premium members will also be invited to dine at exclusive corporate tables such as Goodwood, Cowes, Ascot and special one-off events

dinnerfriends.co.uk also plans to introduce gourmet weekend breaks, trips and holidays for its premium members and a series of “Ladies Who Lunch” and vegetarian only events.

Although the company is Kent-based, there are plans to expand into London and surrounding counties in the coming weeks. The organisation’s other co founder. Alastair Jessel, is the entrepreneur behind the award-winning Taywell Ice Cream brand, which was featured on BBC1’s “The Apprentice” sold through farm shops and restaurants.

Jessel’s trade contacts should allow rapid expansion throughout the south-east. Taywell’s made-to-order artisan ice creams and sorbets can be found on the menus of leading restaurants including The Oxo Tower, RAC Club and Villandry and destination Kent venues such as Abode in Canterbury, Hengist at Aylesford and George & Dragon at Speldhurst.
