Executive Chef Phil Thompson and his team have good reason to celebrate after retaining their position in the culinary bible. The Michelin Guide, widely regarded as the most respected source of ranking the world's most exceptional restaurants, today awarded him a Michelin star for 2012 at Auberge du Lac - the idyllic lakeside restaurant on the Brocket Hall estate - for the fourth consecutive year.

Phil, who has transformed Auberge du Lac into Hertfordshire's flagship restaurant since taking on the role of Executive Chef in 2005, adds the accolade - the most coveted honour for fine cuisine - to the string of awards he and the restaurant have already garnered.

Of the Michelin star, Thompson, who started his career in the Lanesborough Hotel in Hyde Park said, "I am proud of everyone at Auberge du Lac and it is a great achievement to retain the Michelin Star for a 4th consecutive year. Every year it is a challenge to deliver the high standards expected by our customers; I'd like to thank everyone past and present, who has helped me to achieve my dream."

Hearing news of the award, Dieter Klostermann, Chairman of Brocket Hall International says, "We are extremely proud of Phil and his team in retaining the Michelin Star rating. It clearly demonstrates the high level of culinary competence and the ability to deliver consistently high standards of cuisine and service to our guests."

A charming restaurant, Auberge du Lac is housed in the estate's former hunting lodge, exuding elegance and exclusivity, with starched white tablecloths and attentive silver service. Known as the "foodie´s favourite" both restaurant and chef have received a steady stream of plaudits since Thompson took over as Executive Chef in 2005.

Recently described by the Good Food Guide as, "delivering precise contemporary food designed to thrill and satisfy in equal measure," Thompson seduces his guests with a heady cocktail of the finest gastronomy served in an aristocratic country retreat. That very mix once causing Hotel Guru Fiona Duncan to comment, "I couldn't fault our dinner: romantic setting, excellent service." A fitting tribute for a fine restaurant in unparalleled surroundings.
