Hilarious Christmas comedy at The Granville at Barford

31st October 2011 Print

Guests can get into the spirit and frivolity of Christmas with a Christmas Comedy Special on Sunday 4 December at The Granville @ Barford. Four top circuit headliners will perform at the award-winning dining pub along with the legendary Ryan Gough as compere.

Greg Cook’s deadpan style and mastery led John Plowman (Head of BBC Comedy) to describe him as ‘Les Dawson for the 21st century’. Religion, politics, sport, terrorism, poetry, the police, philosophy, royalty and his long-suffering mum have all been given his treatment since he began performing in 2002. He abandoned a law degree after 2 years to devote more time to writing and performing comedy. ‘Law and comedy are essentially the same gig,’ says Greg, ‘telling lies for money. But this way I don’t have to wear a tie.’ Described by Metro as "Hugely funny, his fearsome physicality contrasts with his rapier-sharp intellect”.

Since winning the prestigious Jongleurs Comedy Callback Competition in 2009 (impressing Frank Skinner who was on the judging panel) it was clear that Lou Chawner had a great future in comedy! Lou weaves stories packed with jokes, mixing in one liners both dark and light, and clever and silly. He has a relaxed stage manner and a twinkle in his eye which allows him to get away with saying things that possibly shouldn’t be said! Described by the Edinburgh Evening News as “A fantastic performance……holds the audience enraptured".

Ruth Cockburn’s comedy plays have been performed in numerous festivals including Sydney's 'Short & Sweet' Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe. She began performing stand-up comedy in 2008 and in her first year was a 'Funny Women' Semi Finalist & 'So You Think You're Funny' Semi Finalist - both prestigious, national comedy competitions. Described by Edfringe as "Both clever & hilarious in style".

21 year old Wolverhampton lad, Luke Regan is one of a small number of Midland’s comedians who are tipped for bigger things. Telling stories about his life living in the Black Country, Luke will be performing a short, but hilarious set.

Ryan Gough performed his first gig in 2000 jumping up on a comedy club stage to deputise for his mate who 'bottled it'. Ryan now performs at every comedy club from Newcastle to Plymouth. Being 6 ft 5” and 19 stone with a shaved head, lazy eye and trademark black leather coat, Ryan can look scary and intimidating. However nothing can be further from the truth; Ryan's friendly banter with the audience makes him an ideal compere.

Val Kersey, Proprietor of The Granville @ Barford, stated “We’re delighted to welcome so many fantastic and gifted top circuit headliners to The Granville in December. The evening will be a great way to get into the spirit of Christmas and I would strongly urge anyone to book their tickets early! “.

Tickets cost £10 each or £15 with supper. Supper will be available from 6pm - 8pm with the show starting at 8pm. Please visit the website at granvillebarford.co.uk for further information.
