There aren’t too many places in the UK where you can enjoy open water swimming, diving, snorkelling and kayaking in a lake next to your home, but at Holborough Lakes in Kent ME6 by Berkeley, homeowner Wally Shave, has found he can enjoy all of this outdoor pursuits on his doorstep.

Having lived at Holborough for over 4 years, 48 year old Wally was one of the first people to move into the development and has literally watched the scheme grow around him. He was attracted by the New England architectural design of the properties, Berkeley’s excellent reputation and the chance to buy a two bedroom house with a garden near his office in Kent.

Wally explains; “We bought our home at Holborough Lakes as it was, and still is, a perfect place for me to live near work during the week, while my family live at our main home in Hailsworth, Suffolk. It also provides a great place for us all to enjoy during the school holidays when they visit me here at Holborough.”

Wally continues: “Now that Nemes Diving and Watersports Academy has opened, I have started open water swimming and snorkelling in the lake, which has been fantastic, and my wife, Su and I are both really keen to start diving. We are both keen divers, having instructed and dived for over 25 years when we lived in South Africa and are planning to enrol our two sons, Nicholas and Christopher on the dive and kayak courses offered by Nemes at the lake when they come to stay. In my spare time, I am an Explorer Scouts Leader at nearby and at Hailsham and am also keen to get the scouts trying out the activities at Holborough Lakes.”

Wally adds: “Holborough Lake is the perfect venue for swimming, diving and kayaking, as the water is very clean with lots of fish and underwater wildlife. It is also a beautiful setting and through the summer it has been fantastic to come home after a day at work and go for a swim around the course in the lake. I am really looking forward to exploring the lake underwater to see what lies beneath.”

Holborough Lakes is a perfect place for people who enjoy exercising, love the great outdoors and want more than just a new home. As well as the dive and watersports academy, there is a private gym and a village hall where a variety of exercise classes are available. The village green and trim trail have also recently opened to provide an ideal place to enjoy exercising outdoors. There is also a crèche which provides childcare for pre-school children.

It also has a ground-floor cloakroom, a rear garden and a family bathroom, and is priced from £189,950. The four-bedroom Aspire exudes quality and class, with its handsome brick-and-weatherboard exterior and a charming Juliet balcony on the first floor. The style includes a fully fitted kitchen, a cloakroom, an open-plan living/dining room and an en-suite master bedroom. This substantial 4 bedroom home is available from just £249,950.
