The average family spends around £1,282 a year on utility bills alone, but by making the switch from an old home to a brand new one they could keep warm this winter and save money.

New Redrow homes at Ty Newydd in Mold Road and Pentre Bach in Ruthin Road are among 1% of the nation’s homes that achieve a ‘B’ rating for energy efficiency.

Well insulated, with double glazing and central heating included as standard they are 40% more efficient to run than homes built only a decade ago and 70% more economical than properties built before 1990.

Anita Williams, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), commented: “Research by Skipton Financial Services lists utility bills as among one of the biggest outgoings for families at around £1,282 a year and, with major suppliers increasing their prices by 18% this winter, people may think twice before cranking up the heating. Improving the efficiency of your current home may help, but why spend time and money doing that when you can move to a brand new home that’s designed to be more economical in its use of energy?”

New Redrow homes include highly efficient heating systems with thermostatic heating control. State of the art double glazed doors and windows, plus ultra-effective wall and roof insulation mean they consistently outperform the recommended minimum air-tightness standard and they lose less heat and have fewer draughts; while ground insulation helps keep floors warm.

The homes also boast energy-efficient light fittings and water-efficient kitchen and bathroom fittings for further savings.

“The cost of making an older property as energy efficient as one our new homes soon mounts up. To install a new heating system, loft insulation and new windows in a typical three-bedroom home could set you back almost £10,000,” Anita explained.

Both Pentre Bach and Ty Newydd are close to Wrexham town centre and the glorious North Wales countryside. Good road and rail links to Chester and across the North West mean the homes are the ideal base for commuters.

Prices for a range of three and four-bedroom homes at Pentre Bach start from £164,995. At Ty Newydd, three and four-bedroom homes are priced from £187,995.
