Air Astana announces new flight to Novosibirsk

Air Astana airline is opening a new direct flight from Astana to Novosibirsk, an industrial, scientific, cultural and transhipment point in Siberia, on 15 June. The Fokker-50 will be used to perform the flights on the Astana-Novosibirsk-Astana route three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

airBaltic reports passenger growth at Riga base

Latvian airline airBaltic carried overall 229,475 passengers in May 2009 (from Riga and Vilnius), representing 4% more than in the same month in 2008, when airBaltic transported 220,802 passengers. In May this year, the number of passengers at the base of airBaltic in Riga has increased by 33% compared to the same period last year.

SWISS makes fuel surcharge adjustments

SWISS is to raise its fuel surcharge for long-haul flights by CHF 8 to CHF 122 per sector. The fuel surcharge for SWISS’s European flights (including Cairo and Tel Aviv) rises CHF 2 to CHF 31 per sector. The new surcharges will apply to all tickets for travel from Switzerland issued on or after 10 June.

TAP launches carbon offset programme

TAP begins flights to Moscow

Grenada renames its airport

Point Salines International Airport (PSIA) in Grenada has been renamed Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) in honour of the former Prime Minister, Maurice Bishop, who in 1979 was instrumental in the decision to proceed with the construction of a new airport, which was seen as a pre-requisite for the development of tourism to Grenada.
