Virgin Atlantic reduces passenger fuel surcharges

Virgin Atlantic has reduced its passenger fuel charges this month, with effect from midnight Wednesday 15th October 2008. The reduction follows the recent, sustained decrease in the price of crude oil.

United Airlines expands Furlough mitigation efforts

United Airlines announced that as of October 16, 322 employees represented by the International Association of Machinists (IAM) have taken advantage of the Early Out and Voluntary Furlough programs agreed to by the company and the union.

Aktau Airport closes for maintenance

From 10 October 2008 at 17:16, Air Astana received the information from Aktau Airport that the runway will be closed during daytime starting from 15 October until 30 November 2008. The airport explains that the airport will be closed for maintenance because of “critical current condition of the runway”.

Aer Lingus & United Airlines' partnership takes flight

Aer Lingus and United Airlines have begun a codesharing agreement, enabling Aer Lingus customers' access to United Airlines network in North America from 01 November. From April 2009 Aer Lingus will place its code on United Airlines domestic flights, giving customers access to United's entire North American network.

Air France and Air Mauritius strengthen their partnership

Manoj R K Ujoodha,G.O.S.K., Chairman of Air Mauritius and Jean-Cyril Spinetta, Chairman and CEO of Air France, have signed a new agreement in Port-Louis for an initial five-year period aimed at strengthening the partnership between the two airlines.

Air France and KLM decrease their fuel surcharge

Taking into account fuel price decreases, Air France and KLM are decreasing their fuel surcharge by 2 euros on domestic flights, 3 euros on medium haul flights and 15 euros on long haul flights and very long haul flights.

New Air France services for young passengers travelling alone

Starting on 8 October 2008, it will be possible to book flights for children under 12 years of age travelling alone, on airfrance.com. Air France is the first airline to offer the possibility of online reservations for these passengers on all its flights and on those of its franchised airlines.

Weak economy affects Austrian’s traffic result

Due to the general weakness in economic cycles overall capacity of the Austrian Airlines Group fell slightly in September, by 1.0 percentage points to reach 78.1%. In total, around 1.02 million passengers were carried in the scheduled and charter segment, 4.0% fewer than last year. The general financial and economic crisis is also expected to have effects on the aviation industry in months to come.

bmi announce website redesign programme

bmi, London Heathrow’s second largest airline, has today unveiled plans for a redesign programme for flybmi.com. The first stage in the programme has gone live with the launch of the new home page, designed by Prospect. The rest of the site will evolve over the coming weeks and will be complete in time for the launch of the airline’s winter timetable on 26th October 2008.

bmi regional named UK's most punctual airline in 2008

bmi regional has been named the UK’s most punctual airline for the first six months of 2008, according to official statistics published by the CAA. From more than 740,000 scheduled flights analysed, whilst the average delay of all airlines was 17.3 minutes, bmi regional achieved an average delay of less than 6.5 minutes. 88% of bmi regional flights operated on time compared to the industry average of only 69%.

TAM Airlines to join Star Alliance

The Chief Executive Board (CEB) of Star Alliance has unanimously voted to accept Brazilian carrier TAM Airlines, the largest carrier in South America, as a future member.
