SWISS names Airbus A340s “Basel” and “Liestal”

SWISS long-haul Airbus A340s HB-JMC and HB-JMD will carry the names “Basel” and “Liestal” all over the world from now onwards. The names of the city and the town in Northern Switzerland were formally bestowed at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg this afternoon in a ceremony attended by SWISS CEO Christoph Franz, Regula Gysin-Grieder, the Mayor of Liestal, Hanspeter Gass, Head of Safety & Security for Canton Basel-Stadt, SWISS Vice President Paul Kurrus and various representatives from the business and tourist sectors of the Basel region.

SWISS named Europe’s Leading Airline

SWISS has been voted “Europe’s Leading Airline” in the 14th World Travel Awards. The distinctions, which are among the most prestigious within the travel industry, were presented in Newcastle, UK on October 9.

SWISS announces employee profit participation plan

Having established itself at a stable cruising altitude, SWISS is providing its personnel with a generous share of its bottom-line success. A new and forward-looking profit participation plan should ensure that employees benefit from the company’s profits with retroactive effect from July 2007. The new plan is supported by all the staff associations represented at the company.

SWISS opens new online shop

The Miles & More frequent flyer programme is getting even better: from October 1, SWISS customers will be able to redeem their miles for attractive products online in the new SWISS SHOP. The products offered include a wide range of items from top Swiss manufacturers and international brands. They also include the four different lines of the new SWISS travel baggage range, which is available exclusively at the SWISS SHOP.

SWISS to invest over 1 billion in fleet renewal

SWISS is to invest substantially more than CHF 1 billion in renewing its intercontinental aircraft fleet, replacing nine Airbus A330-200s with bigger and more advanced A330-300s. With the service entry of the new aircraft, SWISS will provide First Class cabins throughout its long-haul fleet.

SWISS enhances product and network

SWISS customers will soon be able to enjoy an improved product on the ground and in the air. The acquisition of four additional Airbus A320 aircraft allows SWISS to add new European destinations to its timetable and increase existing services. A major expansion of SWISS facilities at Zurich and Geneva airports provides customers with a relaxing, personalised travel experience.

SWISS is further expanding its Geneva-based network with the introduction next April of a thrice-weekly service to and from Bucharest. The new route extends the range of non-stop services operated by SWISS from Geneva to ten destinations.

Miles & More extended to Zurich Connect

SWISS has teamed up with direct insurer Zurich Connect to offers its Miles & More members an attractive new mileage-earning opportunity: any member concluding a motor vehicle insurance policy with Zurich Connect will now earn 5000 award miles.

SWISS names Airbus A340 “Schaffhausen”

One of SWISS’s Airbus A340 long-haul aircraft is now carrying the name “Schaffhausen” all over the world. The aircraft was formally named today by Marcel Wenger, the present Mayor of the city in Northern Switzerland.

SWISS takes off with top cuisine from Lausanne

SWISS is now treating its customers to food specialities from Canton Vaud in Western Switzerland. The meals have been created by Didier Schneiter, the renowned executive Chef of the Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne, for the latest chapter in the airline’s “SWISS Taste of Switzerland” inflight catering programme.

SWISS continues to climb in the first half of 2007

Swiss International Air Lines generated earnings before interest and taxes of CHF 285 million for the first six months of 2007. The result compares to CHF 98 million for the same period last year. Consolidated net profit for the first six months of 2007 amounted to CHF 295 million (compared to CHF 76 million for the prior-year period).

SWISS to adjust fuel surcharge for intercontinental flights

With the prices of crude oil and jet fuel having seen further substantial increases to record new highs over the last few weeks, several major European airlines have raised their fuel surcharges in the past few days. SWISS is now following suit, and is adjusting its fuel surcharge for intercontinental flights.

SWISS has made it simpler than ever to book its flights online. The company’s SWISS.COM website now sports a new look, and is even easier to use and navigate than before.

SWISS earns more top rankings in magazine poll

Swiss International Air Lines has been voted Best European Network Carrier by the readers of Germany’s Capital magazine in its 2007 Airline of the Year awards. SWISS also secured an excellent third place in the Best Intercontinental Carrier category.
