maui Motorhomes, one of Australasia’s largest rental vehicle providers, has launched maui Winery Havens in Australia following its huge popularity with customers in New Zealand. Five of Victoria’s most picturesque wineries have been handpicked to create the Australian Winery Havens network offering wine lovers exclusive overnight vineyard stays from the comfort of their premium maui motorhome.

Available to maui travellers exploring Australia from December 2014, Winery Havens begin from just $140 dollars (approximately £78) per couple per night. The package includes an overnight motorhome pitch at one of the five vineyards, a gourmet local hamper for two featuring a bottle of the vineyards wine and local delicacies to devour.

“Following the great success of maui Winery Havens in New Zealand, we are excited to offer such a unique opportunity here in Australia, knowing that Victorians in particular love their food and wine. We are thrilled to make holidays more accessible in the King Valley, Rutherglen and Alpine Valleys areas, where we can offer overnight self-drive experiences that otherwise wouldn’t be possible, alongside the chance for guests to interact with the local winemakers and learn about their craft,” says Kate Meldrum, General Manager Marketing, Tourism Holdings Limited. She added: “Victoria is just the start of this campaign as we reach out to other wine regions to extend this around Australia”.

The Australian maui Winery Haven network consists of five beautiful vineyards located in North East Victoria (not to far from Melbourne) which showcase the region’s best wines. Located within driving distance from one another, wine-loving maui travellers have the choice of visiting just one or two of the Winery Haven properties or they can choose to sample all five listed below:

Dal Zotto Winery
Dal Zotto also sits in the King Valley in North East Victoria, with its Italian origins this winery offers a traditional heritage, with the team at Dal Zotto experimenting with Italian grape varieties as well as traditional Australian favourites. This Italian influences transcends into the on-site restaurant, Cellar Door Trattoria. The Italian-inspired seasonal menu often uses ingredients grown in the vineyard’s own garden and wines from the vineyard are available by the glass. Del Zotto proudly produced the first Prosecco on the market which celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2014, and tends to be a big hit with visitors.

Brown Brothers Winery
Located in the lower reaches of the King Valley in North East Victoria, the Milawa Vineyard is the birth place of the Brown Brothers wine company and the fruit source for renowned wines such as Patricia Noble Riesling, Shiraz Mondeuse & Cabernet and Dolcetto. Visitors can taste these products as well as the new wine varieties and styles that make it through the Kindergarten, a mini-winery designed as a winemaking research and development facility. The vineyard also has two on-site restaurants, fine dining at Patricia’s Table serving seasonal produce of North-East Victoria and Epi.Curious, a relaxed food and wine venue with a tapas-style menu.

Feathertop Winery
Boynton’s Feathertop Winery has been a family business since 1989 and is named after Mountain Feathertop which sits amongst the winery’s surroundings of the Alpine Valleys. The location of the mountain promotes a unique soil composition and climate growing grapes. Visitors can dine out over stunning views of the Alpine Valley and Mount Buffalo at the Feathertop Alfresco Dining Restaurant. The menu combines Australian and French influences, with fresh seasonal produce from the farm and local area. The winery was upgraded over a 12 month period culminating in June 2014 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2014.

St Leonards
Located in the loop of the Murray River in the Rutherglen Wine Region St Leonards is a quieter spot on the wine enthusiast’s tour. The river cools the area’s climate which in turn allows for a longer growing season to encourage further development of the intensity of the fruit’s flavour. The vineyard offers traditional wines such as Chardonnay and Shiraz, as well as more experimental and lesser known varieties such as Cabernet Franc. Exploration of the grounds and wildlife is encouraged with a Murray River Trail along the banks and vines and vintage bike hire. On the first Saturday of every month there is live music on the lawns, and gourmet food is available from St Leonards Café both inside and al fresco with views over the national park.

The Cofield Vineyard is a boutique winery in the Rutherglen Wine Region, owned by the Cofield family who have been running vineyards for over 100 years. The vineyard specialises in sparkling wines, but also offers regional whites, reds, sweet and dessert wines. All are made with premium grapes from the vineyard itself, or those in the surrounding regions such as the Alpine Valley, King Valley and Glenrowan. Alongside wine tastings there are free BBQ facilities, the Pickled Sisters Café which serves up local produce in a friendly atmosphere and activity packages including cycling and gastronomy.
