Swap the beach for the mountains this summer

Suvretta House, the ‘Grand Dame’ of the Swiss Alps is delighted to announce that on 7th of July it will re-open its doors for the glorious summer season in Switzerland’s beautiful Upper Engadine Valley. Traditionally considered a winter destination, the picturesque and glamorous village of St. Moritz is just the spot for a summer alpine escape. The grand hotel set just outside of the village, amidst pine-scented forests, offers sweeping views across the magnificent Lake Silvaplana, the largest natural lake in the Alps spanning over 1,000 meters. A summer stay at Suvretta House offers breathtakingly verdant views, crisp mountain air, superb regional food and wine and alpine activities aplenty, well into the golden autumnal months. Suvretta House will be open for the summer and autumn season through until 23rd October 2022.

This summer season there is an extensive calendar of exclusive cultural, sporting, and gastronomic events for guests to enjoy whilst relaxing and rejuvenating at this mountainside retreat. From the quintessentially British Classic Car Meeting, to Sports Weeks in partnership with the Schulthess Clinic, Fly Fishing, and visiting guest chefs, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

Exclusive Events

Renowned for hosting some of the most elegant and extravagant festivities, cultural events, and exhibitions in St Moritz, Suvretta House has an exciting cultural calendar ahead. From 8th – 10th July the hotel will be hosting the 28th British Classic Car Meeting St. Moritz, bringing together more than 100 British classic cars, some even dating back to 1931. Highlights of this elegant and quintessentially British event include alpine excursions, a rally starting next to the hotel to Italy and back into St. Moritz, a grand gala dinner, and a vehicle presentation in the beautiful gardens of the hotel.

Guests staying at the hotel on 1st August, across Swiss National Day will be invited to join an exclusive barbeque on the Suvretta Stube’s charming sun terrace, with views across the valley and traditional Swiss music. In the evening, a traditional Swiss menu will be served with Tell’s infamous dessert buffet, as bonfires and artistic firework displays light up the starry night skies, set to be a truly magical night to remember.

Alpine Adventures

The lakes and slopes of St. Moritz are beautiful year-round, but summer is the perfect time for adventure enthusiasts to try their hand at something a little different. On 29th July, the hotel will host the 6th Suvretta House Clay Pigeon Shooting Cup, inviting beginner and expert competitors alike to enjoy a picnic lunch, ahead of taking their best shot, followed by an awards ceremony and aperitif at the shooting range. On 8th and 9th August, guests can enjoy fly fishing days, where a local expert will guide you to the most beautiful waters on the Engadine and disclose his lifetime of fly-fishing secrets.

Excitingly, the much-loved Suvretta House Sports Weeks, in partnership with the Schulthess Clinic, Zurich, are back for another season. This year, guests are invited to refine their golf technique under the sporting expertise of André Bossert, amidst the verdant mountain scenery, from 4th until the 10th of September. The Schulthess Clinic, Zurich brings together medical and movement know-how specifically for golfers of all ages and abilities. The 5-day programme is comprised of enhancing sporting measures, golfing at Zuoz, use of the beautiful Suvretta House Driving Range, regenerating body treatments and deliciously nutritious cuisine.  Those looking for something faster paced can opt to level up their running skills with Jorge Garcia, from 11th to 17th September. This comprehensive 5-day performance enhancing programme promises varied training, physiotherapy sessions, strength training, spa treatments and as always, deliciously nutritious cuisine, all in the elegant setting of Suvretta House.

The Upper Engadine is one of the most beautiful, in the Swiss Alps, and widely known for its superb and varied hiking trails. The Val Roseg is one of the most exquisite, and easily accessible by foot, bike, or horse-drawn carriage. Adventurous spirits can make use of the mountain railway to reach the famous 3000m peaks the Piz Nair, the Corvatsch and the Diavolezza, where thrilling high-altitude mountain trails offer spectacular views. With 400km of biking trails, travellers can also explore the region on two wheels. In addition, Suvretta House has its very own Suvretta Sports Alpine Center, with experienced local guides who know all the best biking trails in the region teach guests all about freeriding.  Hotel guests also have access to a selection of high-end mountain bikes, downhill bikes and even e-bikes. 

Epicurean Delights

Back at the hotel, guests will be able to enjoy breakfasts, long lunches and the delicious à la carte menu on the sunny al fresco terrace at the Suvretta Stube while taking in the magnificent panoramic mountain views.

Foodies can enjoy the half-board menu from Executive Chef Fabrizio Zanetti, served at the timelessly elegant The Grand Restaurant and during its weekly closing days at the family friendly Suvretta Stube this summer and autumn. Whilst aperitifs can be enjoyed at Anton’s Bar accompanied by soft piano music, or from an opulent armchair at the Club Bar and Lobby downstairs. In-room dining will also be available for those who want to enjoy a private dining experience in the comfort of their own rooms. Mountain restaurant, Chasellas, is open and serves fresh alpine fare in the day and a superb menu of delectable gourmet delights, with a focus on regional and seasonal ingredients in the evenings, when the cosy chalet-style restaurant is lit by candles.

This year, Suvretta House will be hosting a lively Jazz Sunday Barbeque on both 24th July and 14th August, with live music from the Matthias Heiligensetzer Boogie Trio. Whilst guests staying at Suvretta House across the 7th and 8th of August will be treated to the exclusive opportunity to taste the Argentinian specialities from Dieter Meier’s Ojo De Agua. Enjoy the very best Argentinian steaks paired with powerful wines, all hosted by the world-renowned conceptual artist, musician, restauranteur, wine maker and rancher. Or enjoy a sunny barbeque accompanied by lively jazz on the sun terrace the following day.
