Unveiled - Celebris Blanc De Blancs Extra-Brut

17th April 2007 Print
Celebris Champagne Gosset has unveiled the latest addition to its Celebris portfolio – a Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut. Speaking at the UK launch in London yesterday, Odilon de Varine, executive director for Champagne Gosset, said: “It was important for us to create a unique, worthwhile interpretation of Chardonnay, and furthermore, one which was worthy of the Celebris name. To achieve this we needed to wait, to reflect, to select and then meticulously assemble a cuvée which translates the very spirit of the ancestral savoir-faire of Champagne Gosset.”

In order to produce Cuvée Celebris Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut, the cellar master Jean-Pierre Mareigner has chosen the very best Chardonnay from four vintages, 11 crus and used only the finest methods of vinification. True to the character of Champagne Gosset, there is no malolactic fermentation, to preserve the natural freshness and the aromatic powers of Chardonnay.

In order to maximise the quality of these fine crus from the best years, the wine needed time to express itself. Sometimes this involves putting it back on its lees to develop further, resulting in a truly pure expression of the crus and, of course, with vinification at its most pure and natural.

Dosage was reduced to its simplest expression in order to allow the wine to reveal itself, after many years of ageing in the heart of the Gosset cellars in Ay.

For expressing all these qualities, Champagne Gosset has developed a Blanc de Blancs which not only magnifies the purity and elegance, but holds the unique freshness of Chardonnay.

“We assembled and blended our Blanc de Blancs cru by cru, element by element, vintage by vintage,” adds Odilon de Varine, “and we are proud of the result – our own unique interpretation of Chardonnay.”

An Haute-Couture Case for an Haute-Couture Wine

Gosset’s celebrated Blanc de Blancs is packed in a contemporary cylindrical white, leatherette-style case. The elegant pack is topped with a “saddle bag” handle for ease of carriage.

Held together by a monogrammed Champagne Gosset clasp, two partitions slide open to reveal the distinctive antique style bottle, an exact reproduction of the bottle used by Jean Gosset in the 18th century. To crown the bottle, a beautiful muselet plaque denotes that it is a limited edition conceived by Arthus Bertrand, and the plaque is engraved with the monogram CG (Celebris Gosset).

Cuvée Celebris Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut is available exclusively in the UK from McKinley Vintners. Only a small amount of this high quality wine is being made, and the UK allocation will be small. It is expected to retail for around £100 per bottle.
