Hampshire Vineyard Wins International Medal

Hampshire’s Wickham Vineyard Row Ash red wine has won a bronze medal at the International Wine Challenge, the first medal won by an English vineyard in this category for many years. Wickham also won Commended for its lightly oaked dry white Fumé wine, as served at the House of Commons, a fitting tribute to English Wine Week.

Angela Channon, the winemaker, commented “This is an excellent result and underlines the progress that Wickham and English vineyards have made in recent years. English wine is firmly on the world map, and we are investing heavily to ensure that our quality and consistency continues to improve”.

The International Wine Challenge is the world’s largest wine competition. This year 9350 wines from 35 countries were entered and assessed by 400 judges of 19 different nationalities. Judges included winemakers, merchants and writers from around the world, including the likes of Oz Clarke and Jancis Robinson MW alongside a panel of more than 40 Masters of Wine.

Wickham Vineyard, a Hampshire Fare producer, is situated in the Meon Valley in Hampshire, just outside the historic market town of Wickham. It has an excellent reputation for its high quality wines, and has also re-opened its restaurant, and is a popular destination for wine tours, tastings and dining out.
