16th July 2007 Print
Sovio Wine Sovio, a new reduced-alcohol wine is to be launched this week, in response to consumer demand for wine with 100% aroma, flavour and integrity, but which is lower in alcohol.

Cutting-edge technology also used by the coffee industry means that alcohol can be taken out of wine without affecting the integral quality of the wine itself. At last a reduced alcohol wine that tastes like wine, just with 40% less alcohol.

According to research conducted by DB Wines, the brand owner, many women find that the alcohol strength of wine when consumed in bars, pubs and clubs is often too high, carrying the risk of unwanted intoxication. 1 in 3 now believe that lower alcohol wines are becoming more fashionable, according to a recent report issued by the Wine & Spirit Trade Association. (May 2007).

The increased number of health and diet conscious consumers has started a trend in the wine market. Many people now want a wine which contains less alcohol and is lower in calories – but which also delivers the flavour and quality they have come to expect from wine. This trend has been further fuelled by the increased focus on ‘responsible drinking’ and reduced alcohol consumption.

In response to these trends, wine company DB Wines has developed Sovio, a wine with all the characteristics of standard wine, but with an alcohol strength of 8% abv (alcohol by volume) - meaning 40% less alcohol and almost half the calories of traditional wine at 13% abv or above.

Sovio, served in stylish single-serve screw-cap glass 200ml bottles, is available in two styles – a refreshing, zesty Blanco and a Rosado that is bursting with berry fruit flavour. Both styles are delicious, light and refreshing. Consumers can now enjoy 100% premium wine at 8% alcohol by volume, without any compromise.

Sovio will be available in pubs and bars from September.
