Salisbury pubs go continental with new wine list Lovers of fine food and wine can now enjoy some of Europe’s finest wines at their local village pub following the introduction of an exclusively European wine list, by Salisbury Pubs Ltd.

The award winning pub group, which comprises four pubs with dining areas, situated within the Northern Home Counties, introduced the exciting new wine list into its estate so that carbon-conscious drinkers no longer have to feel guilty about enjoying a fine glass of wine.

Customers visiting a Salisbury pub will now enjoy a wine list containing a delicious fare of European only wines, which embrace and complement the much celebrated and highly acclaimed menu.

The tastefully inspired and extensive wine list features an array of 41 wines from France, Italy and Spain, as well as other notable countries throughout Europe, with 28 available by the glass.

The move away from New World wines was not only inspired by a desire to provide customers with a wider variety of wines produced closer to home but also to demonstrate commitment to the environment.

As owner, David Salisbury commented: “The creation of an exclusively European wine list at our pubs has been a project of passion. We strive to consider our actions in all we do and buy local produce whenever and wherever possible. It was our belief that the same should be true of our wines. This meant a reduction in wines miles but not in wine quality.”

“We have seen an increase in sales of European wines and we wanted to make it easier for customers to continue sampling new wines from across the continent. The wine list contains so many options and ideas, we hope that with each visit people will enjoy trying something different.”

He went on to say: “Our customers share our enthusiasm and have encouraged our work. They have certainly had fun sampling new and great tasting wine too!”

The new wine lists were created with the assistance of Paul Johnson from Great Gaddesden Wines, who has helped both David and Becky Salisbury select some fabulous grape varietals including Bedfordshire’s own Warden Abbey Estate. The local wine supplier has extensive knowledge of quality wines, a knowledge that has been recognised with the accolade of many prestigious awards including Regional Wine Merchant of the Year for two years running.

The wine list includes wines from France, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Germany, Austria and England. Highlights include the Austrian Red Wine, the Warden Estate White and a Pudding List with nine wines to choose from.
