Domestic Bliss - Tennis Treats Whirlpool, an official sponsor of the Women’s Tennis Association, has teamed up with Eric Lanlard, patisserie chef to the stars, to create some exclusive recipes inspired by the upcoming tennis season.

Eric’s “Wimbledon Strawberry Tarts” are perfect to enjoy from Centre Court seats or from the sofa at home, while you watch the likes of Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova deliver perfect shots. For any traditionalists out there – a spot of cream on the side makes the perfect accompaniment!

Wimbledon Strawberry Tarts

Delicious flan pastry bases topped with cream and fresh strawberries.

For the flan pastry:

Ingredients:

300 grams butter
200 grams icing sugar
80 grams egg yolks
500 grams flour

Method:

Combine the butter and sugar; add the eggs yolks and then the flour. It is important not to over mix the pastry and leave it to rest in the fridge for one hour before using

Line some small tartlet moulds with the pastry and bake them at 180 Degrees Celsius or Gas Mark 4 for 12-15 minutes until golden

Leave to cool on a wire rack

For the filling:

Ingredients:

250 grams of double cream
50 grams of sugar
Drop of vanilla extract
Sliced fresh strawberries

Method:

While the pastry cooks whip the double cream with the sugar and vanilla extract gently

Once the tartlets have cooled spoon a bit the cream into them and decorate with the sliced fresh strawberries

To impress the tennis set you can give the tarts a professional patisserie finish by melting a bit of apricot jam in a saucepan and brushing it gently on the strawberries. Top off with a touch of gold leaf
