Get hot, not bothered in the kitchen this Christmas
As Christmas approaches, it’s not the Christmas shopping or family togetherness that raises stress levels – the biggest panic most adults have in the lead up to the big day is the pressure of cooking Christmas dinner.A new survey by leading kitchen retailer Magnet has revealed that despite the rise of celebrity chefs, most Brits are hopeless when it comes to cooking a roast dinner. More than 2000 customers were questioned about Christmas cooking and a staggering 88% said they dreaded cooking Christmas dinner, fearing over cooking sprouts or ruining the turkey.
65% said pressure from non nuclear family members, in particular the mother-in-law, was the biggest stress.
Other results included:
33% admit to having ready prepared Christmas meals
44% have alternatives like beef and duck
50% overcook their vegetables, leaving soggy sprouts and crusty cabbage
25% use frozen Yorkshire puddings as they can’t be bothered to make fresh
When specifically looking at the younger generation, 78% of people under 30 have never even made a roast dinner and 90% couldn’t name the ingredients of Yorkshire puddings
Anjum Ahmed, Magnet’s marketing and product director, said: “The kitchen is truly the heart of the home during the festive holidays and people shouldn’t be afraid of the traditional Christmas dinner. There’s plenty of innovative solutions available which will hopefully encourage more people to get into the kitchen and create some fantastic meals.”
