In praise of the antique

In praise of the antique Our appreciation of what constitutes beautiful design need not restrict itself to a delicate piece of Iznik ware or the sleek lines of a Mies Van der Rohe; indeed our admiration can range far and wide encompassing even those more prosaic, every-day objects, such as the bathroom basin.

Jacob Delafon, established in 1899, rose to prominence in 1920’s Paris as designers of bathroom ware, and it is from this era that some of their most beautiful designs derive. There is a restrained, yet confident elegance to their work epitomising the early Art Deco movement, in which simple, curved forms were favoured over the later, more typically angular, geometric designs.

In keeping with much from this period, their pieces assume an air of permanence and quality. At present LASSCO is fortunate to have four Jacob Delafon basins in stock.
