easyJet celebrates 20 million passengers at Gatwick

5th March 2007 Print
easyJet, Europe's leading low-fares airline, today thanked the region’s travellers for their support over the years as it welcomed its 20 millionth passenger from London Gatwick Airport. easyJet began operations from London Gatwick on 16 December 1999, with the airline’s very first flight connecting Gatwick with Geneva.

The airline now offers a choice of 37 domestic and European destinations; with 140 flights a day Gatwick is now easyJet’s largest base with more flights than either Stansted or Luton airport’s.

Paul Cable, UK Market Manager for easyJet, said:

“Today marks a great achievement for us. Since operations began in 1999, 20 million passengers have chosen to fly with easyJet from London Gatwick and in the past 12 months alone we have carried over 5.7million passengers.

In addition to the low fares, easyJet has an unbeatable business product:

- Efficient online check-in
- 40-minute check-in window
- Flexibility to change times, dates and names
- One-way fares, which enable passengers to fly into one airport and out of another
- Speedy boarding

The top three destinations from Gatwick in the last 12 months were Geneva, Edinburgh and Belfast with strong sales on the new route to Marrakech which launched on 4 July 2006.

Ms Lesley Allan, became easyJet’s 20 millionth passenger from Gatwick last night. She was travelling to London from Glasgow on a business trip for the day with easyJet. Lesley received free flights to easyJet’s latest addition to its Gatwick base – Marrakech. Fellow passengers enjoined the celebrations with a traditional Scottish bagpiper filling the air of the departure hall whilst they checked in.
