26th September 2007 Print
easyJet, Europe's leading low-fares airline, today announced it would introduce a new route from East Midlands airport to the popular Spanish city of Barcelona this winter. The new four times weekly service will commence on 7 December and will offer fares from just £17.99 one way (£30.98 return) including tax.

This is the second new route to be added to the airline’s Midlands base, following the recent announcement that the airline will introduce flights to Palma, Majorca, commencing in February 2008.

This new route to Barcelona will provide the only direct link from East Midlands to the city and easyJet expects to carry over 70,000 passengers on this new service in the first 12 months of operation.

David Osborne, easyJet UK General Manager, said:

"This new route is great news for those living in the East Midlands region, Barcelona is a fantastic historical and cultural destination ideal for city breaks and is a gateway to the beautiful Costa Brava region, as well as a vital link for business travellers.

Not only will this new route provide the only direct link to the city from East Midlands airport but is also expected to be popular with inbound Spanish travellers wishing to explore the region"

Penny Coates, Managing Director East Midlands Airport, said:

"This is another welcomed destination, taking our route portfolio with easyJet to eleven. Barcelona will certainly be popular and will offer our customers even greater choice to explore this fabulous city, with flights leaving EMA four times a week."
