easyJet takes off from London Gatwick to Basel

23rd July 2008 Print
easyJet, Europe’s leading low-fares airline, has launched its latest new route from London Gatwick to the Swiss city of Basel this month. The daily service is available from just £28.99 one way including tax.

Basel is located along the Rhine river in northern Switzerland, at the intersection with France and Germany. The city has more than 30 museums, providing evidence for the slogan "Basel - Culture Unlimited" and a fantastic gastronomic selection due to the three very different cuisines offered by the surrounding countries. Basel is host to the biggest carnival in Switzerland ‘The Basler Fasnacht’, which takes place from the 2 – 4 March 2009. The streets in the old town are full of people enjoying the two-day party atmosphere.

Basel is also a great base to explore The Black Forest, the Jura and the Vosges. easyJet’s business passengers are expected to predominantly head to the northern part of Basel where most of Switzerland’s major companies are based.

easyJet expects to carry 200,000 passengers on this new route in the first 12 months of operation. David Osborne, easyJet’s UK General Manager, said:

“easyJet has seen an increase of 23 new routes from London Gatwick 2008, taking the total number of routes on offer from the airport to 65. Basel will offer a direct link for many business travellers to the city, with the independent traveller taking advantage of Basel’s unique European location to explore the three surrounding countries.”
