easyJet launches Gatwick to Salzburg route

19th August 2008 Print
easyJet has announced a new route from London Gatwick to Salzburg in Austria. The new route, which commences on 13 December, will operate three times weekly and offer fares from just £32.99 one way including tax.

This new route route to Salzburg brings the total number of routes from London Gatwick to 50 this winter and the airline expects over 16,000 passengers to travel on the new service.

David Osborne, UK General Manager Commercial, said:

"Salzburg is yet another exciting destination to add to easyJet's Gatwick network. We expect Salzburg to be popular with passengers seeking both a city break away or a great ski destination for those looking to hit the slopes this winter.

"easyJet has more flights to the snow from Gatwick this winter than any other airline and Salzburg joins other popular ski destinations such as Geneva, Innsbruck, Lyon and Sofia."

Salzburg - most famously known as the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1756 and the setting for the classic musical 'The Sound of Music', is an ideal city break destination. The river Salzach runs through the city, and the closest alpine peak – the 1972m Untersberg – is only a some few kilometres away from the city centre. Unspoilt countryside with unique natural attractions such as the Hohe Tauern National Park, the beauty of the old town centre of Salzburg and its surrounding areas offer an enchanting variety. Salzburg also offers access to wonderful ski resorts, the region of SalzburgerLand offers 22 ski regions, 600 ski lifts and a total of 1700 kilometres of superbly groomed slopes.
