New research released today reveals that British women are gearing up for a bumper Christmas party season, with plans to throw some 42 million festive get-togethers for friends and family.  Of these, 91% of women plan to host 15 people, with the braver among us (9%) inviting between 15 and 30 people.

But while we may be a nation of hostesses, more than two thirds (67%) of women find organising and hosting get-togethers a stressful experience that take an average of 24 hours to prepare for.

The research was conducted on behalf of Jacob’s Creek Blanc de Blancs, a new festive sparkler that is ideal for Christmas gatherings or as a simple treat that helps create a truly special occasion. It was carried out to understand the stresses and strains of organising a Christmas party, and to identify the simple treats that make for the perfect, indulgent and stress-free occasion.

Key research findings include:

- We spend a combined total of nine million hours cleaning and tidying our homes, preparing food and drink, and getting ourselves glammed up when hosting a get-together

- Just under a third of women (31%) take a whole day to get ready, while nearly one in five (19%) take more than one day to do all their Christmas party preparations

- More than two thirds (67%) of women say they find planning parties stressful

- Getting ready and looking glamorous (48%) is top of our worry list when planning to throw a party, followed by choosing the entertainment (47%), fretting about people turning up (45%), getting our homes spick and span (28%), having enough time to prepare the food and drink (28%) and coming up with an enticing menu (28%)

Putting the extra sparkle into Christmas parties

When asked what would make their get-togethers more special, over half of women (57%) said having waiters on hand to serve drinks to their guests would be the ultimate treat, followed by entertainment (54%) and having a new outfit to dazzle in (48%). And to help take the stress out of hosting a party, women would most like someone to help get their house clean and sparkling for when their guests arrive (40%) followed by a helping hand from a chef (35%).

New Jacob’s Creek Blancs de Blancs is a delicious new sparkling wine that can lift a social occasion into an extra special event.  That’s why Jacob’s Creek Blanc de Blancs is aiming to help reduce the stress of Christmas parties by partnering with leading home and fashion stylist Hannah Sandling to give women simple tips on how to treat them and their friends to a night to remember.

Hannah comments: “Throwing a party in the Christmas period needn’t be stressful, but for many women, picking the right outfit to impress guests, creating an enticing menu and getting their house looking gorgeous can make the build up to the big event fraught with worry.  My advice for those looking to impress is to go for the special little touches that will surprise and delight guests.  This season, sparkle is big news, so introduce sequinned accessories to your outfit, decorate your home with sparkling fairy lights and sparkly baubles, and create a fantastic first impression by serving guests a delicious glass of Jacob’s Creek Blanc de Blancs to get your evening off to a festively fizzing start!”

Jacob’s Creek Blanc de Blancs is available in Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Nisa or online from Tesco Wine Club at an RRP of £9.99.
