TalkTalk goes mobile

12th November 2010 Print

TalkTalk, the biggest challenger to BT in fixed line communications, has launched its first mobile broadband and mobile phone packages.

TalkTalk customers can chose between two voice packages – Mobile Essentials, costing £10 a month, or TalkTalk’s unlimited package, Mobile Plus, priced at £30 a month. Both packages are SIM-only and designed to offer flexibility to the user.  Mobile Essentials has an inclusive allowance of £10 per month that can be used for making calls, sending texts or browsing the web, however the user wants. Both packages are available on one month rolling contracts

Calls to national landlines and mobiles, plus 36 popular international landline destinations, are priced at just 5p per minute within the £10 monthly allowance.  Both Mobile Essentials and Mobile Plus are available on one month rolling contracts

Tristia Clarke, Commercial Director, TalkTalk said: “Millions of people already receive our fixed line phone and broadband services, so the obvious next step was for us to offer mobile packages and allow our customers to use a TalkTalk phone or dongle on the go.

“We think our new tariffs offer incredible value, £152 cheaper than Virgin Media and will be extremely attractive to customers looking for a low-cost but high-performance mobile phone or broadband package.”

Both Mobile Essentials and Mobile Plus offer:

calls to UK landlines and mobiles;

calls to landlines in 36 countries worldwide;

UK text, picture and video messages;

mobile internet browsing within the UK;

Video calls within the UK.

And regardless of which package they choose, customers can buy up to five SIMs per household. Calls are free between the TalkTalk SIMs bought by the account holder, as are calls from the SIMs to the account holders’ TalkTalk landline.

TalkTalk is also offering a mobile broadband package available to existing TalkTalk customers, which comes with a one-month rolling contract. The package costs £10 per month for 1GB of data, plus a £29.99 one-off fee for the dongle.

TalkTalk will be using Vodafone’s network to provide its mobile broadband and voice as announced in July. The new mobile packages come soon after the launch of a range of TalkTalk-branded fixed line handset phones earlier in October.
