If your knives are suffering from neglect and couldn't cut through soft butter it's time to get them into shape. Sharp well cared for knives are essential and safer to use, Kitchen Devils have a range of tools to keep them in tip top condition.

Using a traditional sharpening steel little and often is the best way to get a sharp cutting edge. A steel is not for use on blunt or serrated knives it is for maintaing a sharp blade. The Kitchen Devils Sharpening Steel is £10.99 and made from high quality carbon steel, with a moulded handle for a secure safe grip. Using a steel can be daunting so there's a guide on the back of the pack with instructions.

One of Kitchen Devils best sellers is the Rollsharp Sharpener, £7.49. It is easy to use and can be used on very blunt or damaged knives. You simply place the blade in the slot and push back and forth about 10 times for a super sharp knife. Washable ceramic sharpening wheels grind away any burrs or dents in the knife.

The Kitchen Devils Super Sharpener is a quick and handy little tool that will give you a sharp blade in a few strokes. It uses the same principal as a sharpening steel but takes away a level of difficulty - the blade is passed between two smaller steels. At just £4.49 it is a great little gadget for taking away on holiday - knives in self catering accommodation are simply never quite sharp enough.

It is also worth remembering that once you have given all your knives their sharpening makeover think about where you're going to store them. If you don't have a knife block it's worth investing in a Kitchen Devils Magnetic Knife Rack, £9.99 that keeps them in a safe handy place.

Top tips

Never put good knives in the dishwasher or they will blunt.
Wash and dry knives straight after use.
Store your knives in a safe place. If they are super sharp they are best kept in a block, on a magnetic strip or in their own drawer.
Use wooden or plastic chopping boards, marble or glass are not good for sharp blades.
Sharpen your knives little and often.

The Kitchen Devils range is available at John Lewis, Asda, Lakeland, Argos, Dunelm and independent kitchen and hardware stores or go to kitchendevils.com.
