He explains: “Whatever your current fitness levels, there is now so much choice, and so many new and fun things for you to try, whether on your own, with friends or as a family.

“Building regular, moderate activity in to your week, and making it part of your routine will soon work wonders for your health – and also for your weight loss!”

Simon’s top tips for getting started:

Tip 1: Get walking – A brisk walk is one of the best and easiest ways to get some exercise.

Tip 2: Stretch - Remember to stretch when you exercise, as this will help you to avoid injury, which could put you off from continuing.

Tip 3: Join a team – Joining a local sports team can keep you motivated and with regular training sessions you’ll soon we having too much fun to notice you’re exercising!

Tip 4: Class act - Fitness classes at the local gym are also a good way to try something new. There are now so many on offer – from vibrant dance classes such as Zumba, to pilates and boxercise. The instructor will help you stay motivated and often you work at a pace to suit you.

Tip 5: Fun, fun, fun! - Exercise shouldn’t be a chore! Do something you enjoy and you’re much more likely to continue with it. If the gym really isn’t for you then don’t force yourself. Learn what your likes and dislikes. Maybe you prefer to exercise alone, such as by going for a jog or running. Or maybe you feel more motivated when you’re in a class or team sport environment.

Tip 6: Buddy power – Exercising with a friend is a great way to stay motivated and to help make exercise part of your regular routine. Working with a friend or relative means you can support each other and it’s less tempting to make excuses not to exercise!

Tip 7: Make it a family affair – Equally try and plan family days out which are active, such as going for a walk together or cycling. It is a great way to exercise while spending time together and promotes positive health for the whole family.

Tip 8: Build up not burn out - Be careful not to burn yourself out by doing too much too quickly. It takes time to build up your fitness levels and you are more likely to get an injury if you overdo it straight away. Set yourself realistic targets to work towards and treat yourself for reaching them, such as buying yourself something new.

Tip 9: Change for the better – With so much variety to choose from, you need never get bored of exercising. If you don’t like something then don’t sweat it, just try something new. Taking part in a variety of different activities will also work out different parts of your body.

Tip 10: Forgive and forget – Give yourself a break. If you have a bad a week and can’t face the thought of exercise then forgive yourself. As long as you keep up with your routine in the long run, an occasional slip is not the end of the world. The danger lies in hitting a hurdle and then giving up completely.

Simon added: “While the Slimavite Bite Plan helps slimmers develop healthier eating habits, introducing exercise can help speed up weight loss. And not forgetting, it can also help your wellbeing in all sorts of other ways too - from improving your sleep, to increased stamina, improving your mood and helping to relieve the stress and tension of everyday life. So what are you waiting for!”
