Made by Hands of Britain, madebyhandsofbritain.com, the online marketplace featuring the finest in British craft and design, has announced the addition of Sterlingham, the luxury handcrafted bathroom fittings company, to its artisan supplier fold.

The Sterlingham Co. workshop, located in the ‘Crystal Mile’ area of Stourbridge famed for the production of lead crystal glass, hand-manufactures a diverse range of bespoke bathroom fittings and accessories for homes, palaces, marine and recreational vehicles and the hotel trade. True to its name, a combination of the pound ‘Sterling’ and ‘Birmingham’, Sterlingham sources materials for its handcrafted bathroom fittings as locally as possible, including pottery from Stoke-on-Trent and brass from a Birmingham-based supplier.

MadebyHandsofBritain.com specialises in one-of-a-kind handcrafted items from over 180 of Britain’s finest independent artisans. The wide range of stylish and distinctive handcrafted items include unique gift items such as abstract sculpture, turned-wood, jewellery, handmade glass gifts and stained glass, organic beauty products, toys, exquisite textiles, bespoke saddlery and food items, and inspiring, distinctive furnishings and accessories for home and garden.

Gillian Montegrande, founder of Made by Hands of Britain, champions the resurgence of individuals and small handmade businesses throughout the UK. “Sterlingham epitomises what Made by Hands of Britain is all about, which is celebrating the excellence that is British Craft and production methods. A positive outcome of the recession is the change in our purchase habits. We are making much more considered decisions about the inherent value of what we buy. When you buy something made with skill and dedication, you can rest assured that it is not something you will be discarding in a few months’ time. Nowadays, it is about buying once and buying well. The planet will thank us too!”

In addition to the wide array of gift and interiors products on the site, Made by Hands of Britain also has a directory of crafts specialists available for heritage, building conservation and restoration projects. Craftspeople skilled in heritage crafts that include cob-wallers, blacksmiths, master carpenters, architectural plasterers, master stonemasons and dry stone wallers are all found on the site.

Commenting on joining madebyhandsofbritain.com, Sterlingham founder Kelvin Pearce says: “Our products are made in much the same way as a hundred years or more ago. We lathe-turn individual components, silver solder, polish, bend materials and assemble all by hand. This care and skill builds in a quality unmatched by other production methods. Made by Hands of Britain shares the same ethos, that which embraces quality, craftsmanship and longevity over mass-production and throw-away products.”

The wide range of handcrafted bathroom fittings and accessories hand manufactured by Sterlingham includes low-energy heated towel warmers, soap and sponge baskets, bath-racks and mirrors. The company also restores reclaimed items.
