Graduate designs high-tech tea towel
Graduating Product & Furniture Design student Paul Oxley has invented a device he calls the electronic tea towel to boost kitchen hygiene. Paul, who graduates from De Montfort University in Leicester next week (14 July), with a first class honours degree, has developed the idea for a high-tech replacement for kitchen cloths.

Graduating design student Charles Bramwell has designed the perfect party sofa system designed to save space in modern homes. Charles, who graduates BA(Hons) Furniture with Product Design from De Montfort University in Leicester next week (14 July), has developed an adaptable seating system to address the ever-shrinking average room size in houses.

Allot Frères takes luxury furniture to Maison & Objet
Ateliers Allot Frères of France, a specialist in top-of-the-range reproduction furniture, will, for the first time, take part in the Maison & Objet trade show, which will be held in Paris from 5 to 9 September 2008. The company specialises in reproductions of works from French master cabinet makers of the 17th and 18th centuries. Allot Frères manufactures a range of over 600 designs, featuring a wide range of lacquers, finishes, fabrics and hand-sculpted models in Regency, Louis XV or Empire styles.

In Bonhams sale of 20th Century British Art yesterday – Wednesday 2 July, a wonderful and humorous oil on board, Granny with her Pet Mouse by Beryl Cook fetched more than double its estimate to realise a world record price of £69,600 for a work by the artist. A second work in the sale, The Dolphin also soared in price to realise £66,000, also smashing the previous record price of £28,800.
