Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, today signed a three-year sponsorship deal with London-based Queens Park Rangers Football Club. The deal will see the Club carry the airline's branding on all team kit, including First Team home, away and third shirts, promoting the airline and Bahrain globally.

Northwest Airlines cancels three international routes

KLM’s Trans-Atlantic joint venture partner Northwest Airlines has announced a cancellation of flights between Detroit - Düsseldorf and Hartford - Amsterdam, effective October 1, 2008. As from the same date flights between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Paris will be suspended, to be resumed on March 28, 2009.

Lufthansa adjusts fuel surcharge

In recent weeks, crude oil and kerosene prices have continued to rise. In response to this development, Lufthansa is adjusting its fuel surcharges on its flights. The fuel surcharge on domestic German and intra-European routes will increase by three euros to 27 euros per flight segment. On long-haul routes the corresponding fuel surcharge will be raised by five euros to 97 euros per flight segment. The increases will apply to all Lufthansa tickets issued on or after 17 July 2008.

Air Seychelles, one of the world’s smallest airlines, has acquired a fourth Boeing 767 aircraft in its 25th anniversary year. The B767-300ER has been leased from International Lease Corporation (ILFC) and is due to be in operation by the autumn.

Ryanair announces capacity reductions at Stansted

Ryanair has announced substantial capacity cutbacks at Stansted for its Winter Schedule (08/09). Ryanair, which last Winter had 36 aircraft based at Stansted, will this Winter reduce that number to 28 aircraft (a 25% reduction), and an approximate 14% reduction in the number of weekly flights from over 1,850 per week last year to just under 1,600 this year. Ryanair estimates that its traffic at London Stansted will decline this Winter by some 900,000 passengers compared to last Winter’s schedule.
