Summertime and the flying is easy
Aer Arann, Ireland’s premier regional airline, is offering travellers 20% off all flights between the UK and Ireland. Over 250,000 Aer Arann seats are on special offer from Wednesday 9 July until midnight Sunday 13 July 2008. Customers can save 20% on routes including Manchester-Kerry, Edinburgh-Cork, Cardiff-Dublin and Birmingham-Waterford. The super sale applies to all Aer Arann flights to and from any of the airline’s thirteen UK destinations and is valid for travel throughout 2008.
Coventry Airport launches ‘Take Off’ magazine
Coventry Airport has launched a new magazine called ‘Take Off’, packed with articles of interest for passengers, potential customers and the local community. A twice yearly publication, the June edition of ‘Take Off’ puts the spotlight on Corfu - one of four new destinations from Coventry for Summer 2009; how the airport is reducing its impact on the local environment; business aviation as well as general interest features such as learning to fly.
Alternative Airlines celebrates thaw in Anglo-Russian relations
Alternative Airlines, the innovative flight only on-line booking site, is celebrating Gordon Brown's first meeting with Dmitri Medvedev, the new Russian President, by launching some exceptionally low fares to over 12 major Russian cities including Moscow and St Petersburg. Ryanair condemns increased taxes on air travel
Ryanair has condemned the European Parliament's decision to include aviation in EU emissions trading systems from 2012 onwards. This vote by the European Parliament could add up to €50 per flight to the cost of passenger tickets from 2012 onwards (although even these MEPs don’t know how much the final figure will be), in a measure that will substantially increase taxation on Europe’s consumers.

Emirates enters with the dragon
Emirates launched its six-weekly services to Guangzhou last week (Wednesday July 2nd). Guangzhou is Emirates’ fourth destination in China, increasing the airline’s weekly frequency to the country to 48 flights.

easyJet continues campaign to make air tax a fair tax
easyJet taking out advertisements in the national newspapers as part of its long-running campaign to make air tax greener and to cut out the subsidies. Last year, the Government announced that it will scrap the current structure of Air Passenger Duty (APD) and replace it with a flight tax, i.e. a tax on planes.

easyJet has launched a new service from London Gatwick to the French coastal town of Biarritz. Century celebrations for Terminal 5
Terminal 5 is gearing up for a busy summer after celebrating 100 days of operation last Friday, since opening in March. In those 100 days British Airways has looked after almost five million customers travelling through the terminal and has handled more than 38,000 flights.

Ryanair has announced that Sean Coyle, its Director of Scheduled Revenue, has resigned to take up the position of Chief Financial Officer in Aer Lingus Group plc in which Ryanair is a 29% shareholder.
