Ryanair launches new route from Birmingham to Prague

Ryanair has announced a new route from Birmingham to Prague. This follows the launch of the airline’s new base at Birmingham last month when the airline announced 9 other new routes also due to take off in October.

Flybe launches winter flight schedule

Flybe has launched its 2008/9 winter schedule. The launch of the winter schedule also sees the launch of ‘Flybe Connections’, a convenient new ‘one-stop’ thru-booking service which opens up a vast selection of affordable routes for Flybe passengers. It means that customers will now be able to build an itinerary of Flybe routes. For example, passengers travelling between the Isle of Man and Jersey via Gatwick would previously have had to make two bookings: now they can book with just one transaction, i.e. Isle of Man to Jersey.

Flybe unveils Kevin Keegan aircraft

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, today announces the launch of its G-KKEV registered aircraft, ‘Kevin Keegan’, a uniquely branded Bombardier Q400 named in honour of the Newcastle United manager.

SAS Group abandons sale of Spanair

As communicated in the SAS Group Strategy plan, Strategy 2011, SAS has been in a process of divesting Spanair. The target for the SAS Group has been to finalize this process before the end of second Quarter 2008. Due to the challenging market conditions in the Spanish aviation market coupled with record oil prices and pressure in the financial sector SAS has not been able to reach its targeted terms and conditions on the divestment.

Spanair increases flights between Barcelona and Algiers

Spanair has increased its flight offer between Barcelona and Algiers since the 8th June in view of the summer season, offering to its passengers six weekly flights between both cities, four additional frequencies than in 2007 summer season, when these flights started.

Young travelers to reap the rewards with SAS

As of July 1, 2008, young travelers under the age of 18 are now eligible to join Scandinavian Airlines' award-winning frequent flyer program, EuroBonus. Like all other members, they can now earn EuroBonus points on flights and use them for bonus trips, hotel nights and other offers.

SAS launches gay website

SAS Scandinavian Airlines has launched a gay site on its international flysas.com website, thereby becoming the first European airline with a website dedicated to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender/transsexual (GLBT) market. Even more unique, the website builds on SAS' popular crew tips, providing tips from its own gay crew of the best that Stockholm and Copenhagen has to offer.

SAS named official airline for international climate conferences

SAS is to be the Official Airline and Greening Partner at four international conferences up until the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2009. SAS has undertaken to offset CO2 emissions from air travel for all conference delegates who travel with SAS.

Delta and ExpressJet to terminate flying agreement

Delta and ExpressJet have mutually agreed to cease all ExpressJet Delta Connection operations as of September 1, 2008. ExpressJet currently operates 23 ERJ-145 aircraft for Delta Connection on flights that primarily operate out of Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. Delta intends to award a portion of this flying, including all routes currently operated by ExpressJet at its Salt Lake City hub, to another Delta Connection carrier. Delta will rebook customers whose scheduled service is impacted by these changes.

Delta adds fuel surcharge on SkyMiles Award Tickets

In response to continued, unprecedented fuel costs, Delta Air Lines will add a fuel surcharge to SkyMiles Award Tickets originating from the U.S. and Canada.

SWISS names Airbus A320 ‘Kloten’

SWISS Airbus A320 HB-IJS was formally named ‘Kloten’ at Zurich Airport on July 23rd. The naming ceremony was co-conducted by SWISS CEO Christoph Franz and Kloten town mayor René Huber, with various members of the Kloten town and communal councils in attendance. The ceremony was held as part of the weekend’s ‘Terrassenfest’ event at Zurich Airport, to the delight of both invitees and other visitors from throughout Switzerland and abroad.

SWISS to acquire Edelweiss Air

SWISS will formally acquire Edelweiss Air on November 1, and with the new subsidiary’s Management Board already appointed, SWISS has now announced the composition of the company’s three-member Board of Directors.

Ryanair has launched its Autumn 2008 Seat Sale, knocking €10 off millions of seats across Europe. All of Ryanair’s 716 routes are included in the offer, for travel between September 2008 and March 2009*.

Eastern Airways rated UK’s most punctual airline

UK regional airline, Eastern Airways has been named the UK’s most punctual scheduled airline. The independent carrier, which operates from 18 airports, has stepped up to the number one spot for the start of this year after it was second overall in the UK in 2007. The airline was ahead of Air Berlin, bmi regional, Brussels Airlines, bmibaby and Ryanair.
