Air France forecasts record passenger numbers

The summer holiday season is fast approaching, and Air France once again forecasts record passenger traffic at its Paris airports over the last weekend in June, with 25% more passengers at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and 10% more at Paris-Orly compared with a normal day.

bmi expands services between Edinburgh and Copenhagen

bmi regional is to add a third return flight on its route from Edinburgh to Copenhagen from 21 July, increasing the airline’s link between the two cities to 18 return flights per week. Return flights are available from just £145 return including taxes and can be booked online at flybmi.com.

bmibaby announce stage one of winter flights programme

bmibaby, has announced stage one of winter 2008 flights from Birmingham, Cardiff, East Midlands and Manchester Airport have gone on sale. Six key Mediterranean destinations will available to book: Alicante, Faro, Malaga, Murcia, Palma, Nice (travel from February 2009), plus flights to Geneva. More routes will be announced shortly.

bmibaby launches new online destination guides

bmibaby, one of the UK’s fastest growing low cost airlines, has launched a new generation of online destination guides which cover 32 routes across the airline’s network. The guides have been designed in partnership with Ink Publishing who currently publishes bmibaby’s in flight magazine ‘yeah baby’.

BA subsidiary airline OpenSkies launches first commercial flight

British Airways subsidiary airline, OpenSkies, launched its first flight last week (June 19) between Paris Orly and New York JFK. OpenSkies is the first airline created specifically to take advantage of the EU US Open Skies aviation agreement that enables carriers to fly between any destinations in the EU and US. It will operate daily services between Paris and New York on Boeing 757 aircraft that will carry up to 82 passengers.

BA announces Air Mauritius share sale

British Airways has reached an agreement to sell its 10.5 per cent share in Air Mauritius for £3.2 million. The airline is selling its 3.84 per cent share in Air Mauritius Ltd to the Mauritian government and its 13.24 per cent share in Air Mauritius Holding Company Limited to existing shareholders. British Airways has held a 10.5 per cent share in Air Mauritius since 1973.

Delta continues growth in Latin America

Delta Air Lines announced today new nonstop daily service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Buenos Aires, Argentina, starting December 18, 2008.* The new Delta flight to Buenos Aires complements the airline’s existing daily service to Argentina from Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Delta offers select customers rebates on bag fees

Delta Air Lines has announced it will offer a rebate of the new $25 fee for checking a second bag to customers who purchased tickets from Delta prior to April 9, 2008 and travelled on or after May 5. Customers wishing to request a rebate should complete the form at delta.com/bagfee. Rebates are limited to $25 per passenger, per flight.

Delta reaches agreement with Air Line Pilots Association

Delta Air Lines today confirms that a tentative agreement has been reached between the Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines units of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) on a joint contract to take effect upon closing of the Delta-Northwest merger, expected later this year. The pilot groups also have established a separate process designed to establish a single pilot seniority list by the close of the merger.

easyJet today celebrates the arrival of its eleventh based aircraft at Milan Malpensa Airport and announces the airline’s further expansion at Northern Italy’s most important airport.

easyJet lightens the load this summer

easyJet has introduced a facility to allow passengers to purchase extra weight allowance for their hold baggage in advance of their flight. The new facility will allow passengers to pay their excess weight charges online, at a reduced rate, which will also save them time at the airport.

Japan Airlines (JAL) will make a significant contribution to the search for a viable, sustainable, second-generation biofuel for commercial use by the aviation industry. With the close cooperation of Boeing and Pratt & Whitney, the airline will conduct a demonstration flight to accelerate current research and development into the creation of a second-generation biofuel.

LIAT to offer scheduled flights to Montserrat

The Government of Montserrat has agreed a contract with Caribbean airline LIAT to operate a new scheduled air service between Antigua and Montserrat, beginning on July 1, 2008. Catching a 20-minute flight from Antigua is currently the only way to reach Montserrat, other than by a private boat or aircraft, since Montserrat’s Gerald’s Airport opened in July 2005.

Ryanair has rejected claims by Arad County Council and its President, Mr. Iosaf Matula, in relation to Ryanair’s recent cancellation of its route from Milan Bergamo to Arad Airport in Romania.

Korean Air launches new carrier

On June 15, 2008 Jin Air, Korean Air's new domestic and regional subsidiary and South Korea’s freshest airline, revealed its corporate image and slogan. Jin Air, until now known as its tentative name Air Korea, held an open event last Sunday in downtown Seoul announcing its corporate name, branding, corporate image and employee uniforms. Jin Air decided to hold a street event to appeal its brand to the young and dynamic public in a fresh familiar atmosphere. The festive event was filled with special tap dancing, DJ and Korean singers’ performances.
