Emirates to launch first commercial A380 service to America
Air travellers will be able to experience Emirates Airline’s state-of-the-art A380 aircraft for the first time on 1st August, when the airline launches its first A380 commercial service from Dubai to New York JFK. The 14-hour non-stop flight will also be the first-ever commercial A380 service to The Americas.

Lufthansa reveals new aims for environmental issues
Lufthansa spells out ambitious goals in its strategic environmental programme. The Group has specified 15 guidelines to steer its path towards realisation of further decisive progress in environmental efficiency by the year 2020. Lufthansa’s efforts on behalf of environment and climate protection and social responsibility are documented in the Group’s Sustainability Report “Balance”. The 14th issue of the Report is scheduled to be published shortly.

The Monarch Travel Group comprising Monarch, the low fare scheduled and charter airline and Cosmos, the UK’s largest independent tour operator, has launched ‘Monarch Holidays’, a new direct sell brand which will be marketed direct to consumers via the Monarch website.
SAS launches direct routes to the Alps
SAS is launching two attractive direct routes for ski enthusiasts. Next winter, it will be possible to fly direct from Oslo to Innsbruck and Salzburg. The direct route to Salzburg will depart every Wednesday and Saturday from December 3 through March 28. The route to Innsbruck will depart on Tuesdays and Fridays during the period December 26 through March 27.
SAS takes over GO
As the majority owner, SAS has bought out the other shareholders in the travel experience company GO. The company will be merged with the vacation and leisure unit at SAS.
Ryanair rejects Aer Arann boss’s claim
Ryanair is publicly rejecting the claim by Aer Arann’s Pádraig Ó Ceidigh who suggested in an Irish Times interview that “The biggest problem we (Aer Arann) are facing is that Ryanair is all over us like a rash”. Ryanair is stating that there is no substance whatsoever to this statement.
Ryanair says ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ to EasyJet in Dortmund
Ryanair is saying “Auf Wiedersehen!” to EasyJet, following their announcement that EasyJet has started consultations with its staff on the closure of its Dortmund base where EasyJet has 3 aircraft and 11 routes. EasyJet started its base in Dortmund in 2005. Ryanair started a competing base in Düsseldorf-Weeze in 2007 and just 1 year later EasyJet announced that they plan to close Dortmund.
Record fuel prices prompt fuel surcharge adjustment at SWISS
The prices of crude oil and jet fuel have seen further steep rises to new record levels over the last few weeks. A number of major European airlines have already increased their fuel surcharges in the light of these developments. SWISS is now following suit, and is adjusting its own fuel surcharges.

UP wins “Papier” Awards
TAP’s in-flight magazine UP has just picked up the Papier 2008 awards “Best Portuguese Magazine” with its first edition and “Best Commercial Product Printed on a Rolling Press in Portugal”, with edition No.4. This is an initiative by Revista do Papel voted by representatives from the printing press industry in Portugal.
Virgin Atlantic cabin crew receives bravery award
Virgin Atlantic Airways have announced today that one of its cabin crew, Lynsey Cole of Bristol, has been awarded a Chief Fire Officer’s Commendation for her bravery. The commendation is in appreciation and recognition of Lynsey’s brave actions that contributed to the survival of a motorist in a serious car accident earlier this year.
