Emirates awaits arrival of its newest A380 aircraft
Emirates Airline, the largest customer for the A380 superjumbo, today announced it will receive the first of its 58 A380 aircraft on order from Airbus’ Hamburg facility on 28th July 2008. The 58 A380s on Emirates’ order book are worth US$ 18.8 billion at current list prices.
Gulf Air orders 35 Airbus aircraft
Gulf Air, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has placed a firm order for 35 Airbus aircraft. Gulf Air's current fleet includes ten A320s, six A330-200s and nine A340-300s and the new order will be more than double the number of Airbus aircraft in their fleet.
Gulf Air bids farewell to its old Boeing fleet
Gulf Air, the national airline of the Kingdom of Bahrain, bid farewell to the last of its Boeing 767 aircraft after years of exemplary service in the airline’s fleet. In a function held on 30 May, Gulf Air senior management, pilots and technical engineers gathered at the Bahrain International airport to say goodbye to the last B767 coded GV after returning from its last commercial flight.

A touch of EURO 2008 for World Business Class meals
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will introduce new meals on board as of June 1. Inspired by the Euro 2008 soccer championship, all World Business Class meals have been created by a Swiss master chef. The accompanying wines were produced in Austria. Economy Class passengers will be offered a choice of Oriental and Western meals from leading brands.
Farewell to paper tickets on KLM flights
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has announced that as of June 1st it will only issue e-tickets for its flights. The transition to 100% e ticketing is in line with the airline industry’s goal of driving paper out of the ticket process. Eliminating paper tickets will save the equivalent of 50,000 mature trees each year and save the airline industry up to USD 3 billion annually.
Monarch traffic rises by 8% on scheduled services in May
Despite other airlines currently reporting lower than expected results, May saw a huge increase in passenger numbers and load factor for low fares airline Monarch on it’s scheduled services, compared to the same period last year.
E-tickets now in use system-wide at SWISS
SWISS customers will be able to travel on an electronic ticket to any SWISS destination from June 1 onwards. SWISS will offer electronic tickets (e-tickets) for all its services from June 1 onwards. The extended facility should soon make paperless tickets the norm for all travellers throughout the SWISS network.
TAP issues 100 percent Electronic Tickets
TAP has issued 100 percent electronic tickets from June 1, totally compliant with the IAT decision to totally eliminate paper tickets after this date. At a time when airline companies are generalizing the issue of electronic tickets it is worth mentioning that TAP Portugal was one of the pioneering companies in the implementation and development of e-Tickets (ET) on a world scale.
World air transport leaders issue historic declaration
Leading airlines unanimously agreed to appeal to governments, airports and employees to take immediate measures to enable the industry to survive the growing financial crisis. The resolution was taken within the context of the 64th Annual General Meeting and the World Air Transport Summit of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Ryanair announces 5 year deal with Britvic
Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline and Britvic International, have announced a new 5 year supply agreement for soft drinks onboard Ryanair’s 1,000 daily flights. This new agreement will allow Ryanair passengers to enjoy Pepsi, 7-Up, J20 and Britvic’s range of juices onboard all Ryanair’s lowest fare flights until 2013.

VLM Airlines celebrates diamond studded 15th birthday
To celebrate the impressive levels of passenger traffic on its routes between London City Airport and the Netherlands, VLM Airlines has repainted one of its aircraft orange, the colour of the Netherlands. The Fokker 50, which was unveiled at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, will operate mainly on the London City-Amsterdam route.
