United Airlines to save on fuel and reduce carbon emissions
As part of the company’s ongoing efforts to conserve fuel and improve environmental performance, United Airlines has announced that it has signed a multi-year agreement with Pratt & Whitney for their patented environmentally friendly EcoPower engine wash system offered by Global Service Partners, a unit of Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp company.
United Airlines announces new checked bag policy
United Airlines has announced two changes to its domestic checked bag policy. The service fee to check one bag for domestic travel will be $15 each way and the fee to check three or more bags, overweight bags or items that require special handling will increase from $100 to $125 or from $200 to $250, depending on the item.

United guests may now reach cruising altitude with a new, personalized in-flight entertainment system. United is the first U.S. carrier to offer iPod and iPhone connectivity to its in-flight entertainment system, enabling customers to enjoy their individual content on a 15.4-inch personal television, all while the iPod or iPhone charges.
Lufthansa and United to offer "PerksPlus"
Lufthansa and United Airlines today announced they have combined their individual corporate incentive programs to create a single joint program under United’s PerksPlus brand. Lufthansa’s previous “Corporate Mileage Plan” members and United’s PerksPlus participants will now have access to more benefits across a wider, global network.

Virgin Atlantic encourages passengers to fly without fear
Virgin Atlantic Airways today announced that following the success of its Flying Without Fear (FWF) course the FWF team have brought out a book called – “101 of your questions answered”. The book contains answers to 101 questions about flying, valuable information from a cabin crew safety trainer, top tips from aviation experts and psychological tools to help people combat their fear of flying. Virgin Atlantic to start twice daily to Hong Kong
Virgin Atlantic, one of the world’s leading long-haul airlines, is to increase its frequency between London Heathrow and Hong Kong from daily to twice a day. The extra services will lead to the creation of 100 new cabin crew roles. The new, second service will boost the number of seats available on the booming Heathrow-Hong Kong route and open up fresh opportunities for those passengers wishing to connect to other cities in China, or the wider Far East. It will also provide greater flexibility for stopovers, for those passengers wanting to break their journey if travelling to or from Sydney.

Ice cool eco-concert comes to Reykjavík
Two of Iceland’s biggest music stars, Bjork and Sigur Rós, are to play together at a free, outdoor concert in Reykjavík on 28 June 2008. The concert will be held to raise awareness of environmental issues in Iceland. Iceland Express, Iceland’s low-fare airline, is celebrating the event by offering British music lovers lower priced fares on flights between the UK and Iceland in the days leading up to and following the concert.

Delta launches nonstop Salt Lake City to Paris service
Delta Air Lines this week begins nonstop service between Salt Lake City International Airport and Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport. The flights, operating as part of Delta’s joint venture with SkyTeam partner Air France, will be the first trans-Atlantic service ever offered by any airline from Salt Lake City and will be the only nonstop service operated by a U.S. carrier between the Western United States and Paris.

Delta Air Lines to transport internationally acclaimed exhibition
Delta Air Lines has announced it will transport the internationally-acclaimed art exhibition, Breaking the Veils: Women Artists from the Islamic World, on the airline’s inaugural flight from Amman, Jordan to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) on Friday, June 6. The exhibit includes 72 works of art from 51 women representing more than 20 Islamic countries, including Indonesia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
