Ryanair launches 8 new flights from Shannon
Ryanair, Ireland’s National airline, has announced eight new routes from its Shannon base to Birmingham, Dublin, Fuerteventura (Canaries), Kaunas, Luton, Leeds, Riga and Tenerife, which will start in November. From November, Ryanair will also increase the frequency of its Edinburgh (to daily) and Manchester (to 6 weekly) services.
Ryanair invests $1.9 billion in new aircraft
Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline, has announced the purchase of 27 more Boeing 737-800s valued at $1.9bn. This brings Ryanair’s total firm orders for B737-800s to 308 and total fleet size (including planned disposals) to 262 by 2012.

Austrian simplifies excess baggage charges

Austrian’s new zonal system provides greater transparency and simplicity. The network is segmented in to five zones and excess is charged per kilo accordingly.
Aer Lingus announces transatlantic winter schedule
Aer Lingus today announced details of its winter schedule from Shannon airport. From the end of October Aer Lingus will operate daily direct flights from Shannon to Boston, daily direct flights from Shannon to New York and daily flights to Chicago via Dublin.
BA announces working practice changes for Terminal 5
Agreement has been reached on new working practices for all 6,000 ground staff involved in the move to Heathrow’s Terminal 5, British Airways announced today. Willie Walsh, chief executive, said the final staff ballot, by check-in and customer service staff, had shown overwhelming support for new, more efficient ways of working, ahead of the move to British Airways’ new home in Terminal 5.

Virgin Atlantic unveils futuristic plans for Heathrow’s T3
Virgin Atlantic says its plans for the transformation of Heathrow T3 will provide tough competition for the new T5. By the end of this year, all Virgin Atlantic passengers will see a brand new Check In area in T3, Zone A and the creation of a state-of-the art Drive Thru Check In for its Upper Class passengers, well ahead of T5, which will open in March 2008.
