Lufthansa to serve Mumbai

Lufthansa is continuing to expand its services to India. From 3 May 2008, it will be the only airline to connect the south German hub of Munich with Mumbai (Bombay). In future, the thrice-weekly flights from Munich, which will be operated with an Airbus A340-300, will supplement Lufthansa’s daily service from Frankfurt.

Lufthansa to open Frankfurt to Bergen route

Next summer, Lufthansa is opening a new route from Frankfurt to Bergen. The new Lufthansa service, which will operate twice daily, year round, will be launched on 30 March 2008, when the summer timetable goes into effect. Bergen is the third destination in Norway after Oslo and Stavanger to be served from Frankfurt by Germany’s largest carrier.

Readers of Business Traveller Deutschland magazine have ranked Lufthansa first in a total of eight categories for the year 2007. The airline is valued highly by business travellers because of its high safety standards. In the publication’s latest survey, Lufthansa came out top on domestic German and European routes as well as on flights to North and South America, the Middle East and Africa.

Lufthansa Technik restores Lockheed Super Star

Lufthansa Technik AG has been asked by Lufthansa’s historic flight foundation Deutsche Lufthansa Berlin-Stiftung (DLBS) to restore a historic Lufthansa aircraft to airworthy condition. A Lockheed L1649A Super Star, which in 1958 became the first long-haul airliner operated by Lufthansa capable of crossing the Atlantic without refuelling, is to take to the air again in 2010 as an unforgettable contributor to Lufthansa tradition.

Lufthansa opens new A380 hangar

Lufthansa Technik has today opened the first section of the new A380 maintenance hangar in Frankfurt within around 20 months since the start of construction on the first phase of the facility. On about 25,000 square metres of floor space, there is enough room already in the completed stage of the hangar to carry out maintenance work, simultaneously, on two Airbus A380s or three Boeing 747s.

Lufthansa to employ over 4,000 new staff in 2008

Lufthansa is all set to continue its growth in the New Year. To accommodate future expansion, Germany’s biggest airline will be taking on close to 4,300 new staff in 2008. The need for further employees is particularly great in operating areas, where Lufthansa is seeking 2,000 flight attendants and 1,000 other staff for passenger support as “Service Professionals” at Frankfurt and Munich Airports.

In January and February 2008, First and Business Class passengers on Lufthansa’s longhaul routes will have an opportunity to savour menus designed by a top international chef. For eight weeks, Anne-Sophie Pic from the Maison Pic restaurant in Valence in southern France will create palate-pleasing dishes for guests on board as part of the Lufthansa Star Chefs programme.
