The Skoda Octavia has scored a remarkable double victory by scooping a pair of What Car? awards – widely regarded as the Oscars of the motor industry. The magazine awarded its Small Family Car honour to the Octavia Ambiente 1.6 FSI for the second year running, and bestowed the prestigious Hot Hatch award on the scorching new Octavia vRS.

Skoda sold nearly 38,000 new cars in 2005, a new record for the brand in the UK. The brand’s market share of 1.6% is also a record-breaking achievement.

Skoda adds even more value to Octavia and Superb models

From 1 January, prices for the Octavia 1.6 FSI will be reduced significantly, and an additional trim level will be added to this engine, the Classic 1.6 FSI. Available in both hatch and estate, the new model will be priced at just £11,990 on the road for the hatch and £12,480 for the estate version. The Classic 1.6 FSI will have the same standard equipment as other Octavia Classic models, including electro-mechanical power steering, electric front windows and door mirrors, air conditioning, driver and front passenger airbags and central locking.

Colin McRae finishes seventh in the Skoda Fabia WRC 05

Colin McRae achieved his stated aim of bringing the best result of the season for the Skoda Motorsport World Rally Team when he finished seventh on Rally GB. Team mate Armin Schwarz ended the British event 14th. The Fabia WRC 05 proved reliable throughout the three-day event and McRae was able to show his characteristic speed despite having been out of the sport for nearly two years.
