The first officially sanctioned auction of ivory last week, has sparked a major controversy, worldwide. Although the proceeds of the auction will be ploughed back into elephant conservation schemes, many fear that it will ultimately encourage ivory poaching. Chobe National Park in Botswana has the biggest concentration of elephant in Africa, largely escaping the massive illegal poaching that decimated other African elephant populations in the 1970s and 80s.

The world’s best loved cruise liner, QE2, will arrive in Dubai at the end of her ultimate voyage on Wednesday 26 November. After arriving in Dubai, the ownership of the QE2 will be transferred to real estate development company Nakheel. Over the coming months she will undergo extensive refurbishment before taking her place at a specially constructed berth on the Palm Jumeirah – where she will become a floating hotel and must-visit attraction for many thousands of visitors and tourists.
