New accreditation for FTA tanker inspections
The Freight Transport Association Vehicle Inspection Service has received Department for Transport accreditation to carry out inspections of RID/ADR tanks carrying class 3 goods - petroleum spirit, diesel, gas oil and aviation fuel - manufactured on or after 10 May 2004. This new approval supplements FTA's existing appointment for the inspection and certification of tanks manufactured before 9 May 2004.
Freight transport in Wales - must do better
Freight transport remains the Cinderella of UK industry, with insufficient investment and planning for its needs. The Welsh Assembly, together with the UK Government and local authorities throughout the UK, must exhibit a better understanding of the needs of the freight industry and take actions to support improved performance, to the benefit of both the people and the economy of Wales.

Major expansion for ZF in Russia
A major expansion of the joint ZF and Kamaz assembly plant in Naberezhnye Chelny, Tartastan (Russian Federation) is planned for completion by 2010. Kamaz, the market leader for heavy-duty trucks in the Russian Federation, has announced plans to completely change over all vehicle models to ZF transmissions.
London low emission zone - industry anger
The Freight Transport Association is disappointed that, in announcing plans for a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) in London by controls on lorries, Mayor Livingstone has ignored the warning regarding businesses at risk and the large number of vehicles, including Euro 1 and foreign operators, which will slip through a ragged enforcement net by fair means or foul.

As the Mayor prepares to dazzle voters with his plans to clean up London's air by controls on lorry emissions, it is a good time to lift the lid on his box of tricks. The Freight Transport Association says that far from the proposed Low Emission Zone being the answer to London's air quality problems, it is an opportunity for the Mayor to take credit for the enormous progress made by others, particularly vehicle manufacturers and lorry operators, over recent years.

FTA welcomes guidance on shipping of retail dangerous goods
The Freight Transport Association has welcomed the publication by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency of new guidance aimed at shippers and logistics providers in the retail distribution sector dealing with dangerous goods in 'limited quantities' in their supply chains.
