Carter’s Volvo FH16-660 follows rising plant weight trend
Carter Haulage and Storage of Norfolk have responded to a rising trend in the weight of construction plant used by customers for their growing heavy-haulage business by adding a 125 tonne GCW, Euro 4 compliant Volvo FH16-660 into their 14-strong, mixed fleet. Says the company’s owner Shaun Carter. “Plant weights are going up and up and we have to follow.”

Volvo starts project with hybrid-drive refuse vehicles in Gothenburg and Stockholm
The Swedish Energy Agency has granted SEK 9.8m (£ 715,000 approx) in financial support to AB Volvo for a project within the development of new hybrid technology for heavy vehicles. The project comprises development and testing of hybrid technology in two refuse collection trucks in Gothenburg and Stockholm. The aim of the project is to achieve fuel savings of up to 30%.

100 not out for Milbank’s Volvo FH-400
Colchester-based crane truck specialists Milbank Trucks have taken delivery of their 100th truck – a Volvo FH-400 christened “Centurion”. The I-shift automated gearbox equipped 8x2 rigid is the latest in a line of Volvo’s going back to 1983, and will carry out a variety of work from machinery to site cabin transport, running at 32 tonnes GCW normally or at 44 tonnes GTW when a triaxle trailer is hitched to its drawbar coupling.

Bracknell-based pallet recycling specialist Kingswood Pallets has taken delivery of a Volvo FH-400 4x2 tractor unit finished in a striking Ferrari Red. The vehicle, which is fitted with a Euro 5-compliant engine - just three months after the Euro 4 regulations took force - and an I-Shift automated gearbox, will operate at 34 tonnes GCW.

Premiere for Volvo Trucks breathalyser on Stena Line ships
On 16th January, Stena Line and Volvo Trucks showed the first breathalyser to be installed on the Stena Scandinavica ferry that operates between Gothenburg (Sweden) and Kiel (Germany). The breathalyser allows drivers to quickly and easily test themselves to verify that they are fit to drive in Sweden.
