WEKO approves SWISS acquisition of Edelweiss Air
WEKO, the Swiss Competition Commission, has given its green light for the merger of the two airlines. The authorities have not imposed any special conditions. Edelweiss Air will continue to operate as an independent member company of the Swiss Group. Kuoni remains Edelweiss Air’s biggest customer.
SWISS teams up with US Airways to Philadelphia
SWISS and US Airways have concluded a new codeshare agreement that will offer both partners’ customers an even wider selection of air destinations. SWISS travellers will be able to fly from Zurich to Philadelphia on US Airways-operated flights from April 26 onwards; and US Airways customers will have onward connections from Zurich operated by SWISS to ten new European destinations.
Thomsonfly winter flights go on sale
On sale today (22 April) are the majority of Thomsonfly’s low fare flights for winter 2008/09, which commence flying from 1st November. Prices start from as low as £24.99 one-way for routes to Salzburg and Geneva, to Malaga and Alicante from £29.99 and to the Canary Islands from £54.99.

Flybe calls for break-up of BAA
Flybe, Europe’s largest low-cost regional airline, this morning repeated its call for the break-up of airport operator BAA. In it’s ‘emerging thinking' report into its 'BAA AIRPORTS MARKET INVESTIGATION', the Competition Commission were withering in their criticism of the Ferrovial-owned airport operator, stating that ‘common ownership adversely affect competition’.

The Stansted Airline Consultative Committee (ACC) this week (Tuesday, 22nd April 2008) welcomed the Competition Commission's emerging view that common ownership of London airports by the BAA monopoly is bad for users.

Cleethorpes man pops the question at 35,000ft

From London to amber

Flybe is fastest growing airline serving Germany
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional low cost airline, has been recognised as the fastest growing low cost carrier flying to and from Germany with a massive 392% increase in flight ranking over the past 12 months. Flybe now operates 128 weekly flights serving five primary airports in Germany, up from the 26 flights on offer in 2006/7.

Air Astana signs internet payment deal
