Ryanair’s Birmingham services affected by Boeing strike
Ryanair yesterday announced that due to strike action at Boeing it has had to cancel 25 return flights to/from Birmingham. As a direct result of this strike, which has delayed the delivery of new aircraft, Ryanair cannot now operate flights on 21 routes to/from Birmingham between 24th and 28th October as originally scheduled.
SWISS names a further Airbus A340 at Vaduz Castle
One of the aircraft of the SWISS fleet now bears the name ‘Fürstentum Liechtenstein’. Airbus A340 HB-JMF was symbolically named last month at Vaduz Castle in the principality’s capital. HSH Princess Marie of Liechtenstein performed the naming in a ceremony that was also attended by members of the Liechtenstein government, the Swiss and Liechtenstein ambassadors, SWISS CEO Christoph Franz, numerous further guests and media representatives.
SWISS flights now bookable online by mobile phone
SWISS customers can now book their flights online from their mobile phone. The new portal created for the service also features further useful information on departure and arrival times along with SWISS’s full flight schedules.
United Air Lines to boost liquidity by $275 million
UAL Corporation, the holding company whose primary subsidiary is United Airlines, today announced financing transactions that will add approximately $275 million of cash prior to year end. The company has completed a $125 million aircraft financing agreement, receiving approximately $60 million yesterday, and will receive the remaining approximately $65 million by mid October.
Ryanair announces new aircraft and new routes
Ryanair today (1st Oct) announced that from November it will base two new aircraft (value $140million) in Madrid, open four new routes (Alicante, Palma, Santiago and Valencia) and double the frequencies on three existing routes (Dublin, Milan and Santander) as it adds 75 new weekly rotations at its Madrid base. Ryanair will now offer six domestic and 17 international routes from Madrid on six based aircraft.
Ryanair calls on competitors to reduce fuel surcharges
Ryanair has today (1st October) called on its competitors to reduce their fuel surcharges as oil prices have fallen by over 30% in recent weeks. Ryanair made the call as it launched a 1 million, £1 (including taxes and charges), Winter Seat Sale for travel in October, November and December with seats available on ryanair.com until midnight Sunday 5th October.
Eastern Airways wins punctuality crown at Birmingham and Newcastle
UK regional airline, Eastern Airways continues to be Birmingham and Newcastle airports’ most punctual scheduled airline after again being rated the number one performer. The independent carrier is on the top spot at Birmingham and Newcastle after being named the number one on-time airline from January to June 2008, ahead of airlines including KLM, British Airways, Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, easyJet and Ryanair.

Ryanair announces new plans for Shannon Airport
Ryanair has announced that it will launch two new routes and twenty-six more weekly flights from Shannon Airport from November. Ryanair will base a sixth aircraft in Shannon which will allow it to launch two new routes - to Frankfurt-Hahn and Newcastle - and twenty-six more weekly frequencies to destinations like Bristol, Edinburgh and Paris.
Ryanair extends free seat sale
Ryanair has extended its 1 Million free seat sale until 5pm today, Friday 26 September. This follows its record bookings over the past two days as passengers rushed to snap up free seats all over Europe in October and November.
